February is Black History Month and Cantigny Park will mark the occasion with three fascinating and free-to-attend presentations at the Robert R. McCormick Museum:
Saturday, February 11, 3 pm
“Joseph Medill: Cantigny’s Abolitionist”
Interpretation Manager Jeffrey Anderson presents the intriguing story of Joseph Medill, a Civil War-era newspaper publisher, vocal slavery abolitionist, original Cantigny Park inhabitant and grandfather of Robert R. McCormick. The program is geared to adult audiences.
Sunday, February 12, 3 pm
“The Underground Railroad in Illinois”
Local historian and author Glennette Tilley Turner explores the history of the Underground Railroad in Illinois and its presence in Chicago’s western suburbs. The program is geared to adult audiences.
Sunday, February 26, 3 pm
“Harriet Tubman”
Living-history actress and scholar Pamela Welcome presents Harriet Tubman, the famous Underground Railroad ‘conductor’ who led hundreds of slaves to freedom. The program is ideal for families and children ages 10 and up.

Cantigny Park is open Friday through Sunday in February, from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The park resumes seven-day operations on March 1. Parking is $5.
