ILLINOIS SENATE HONORS ST. ANDREWS GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

St. Andrews Golf & Country Club, a cornerstone of Illinois golf and community life, is proudly celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, marking a century of tradition, innovation, and family ownership. Founded in 1926, the historic West Chicago course is being honored with statewide recognition from the Illinois State Senate for its enduring contributions to golf and the Chicagoland community.

As part of the centennial celebration, the Illinois State Senate adopted a formal resolution congratulating St. Andrews Golf & Country Club on 100 years of operation. The resolution recognizes the club’s lasting impact on the game of golf, its leadership as a family-owned business, and its role as a community gathering place for generations of Illinois residents.

The resolution highlights St. Andrews as Illinois’ oldest family-owned golf course, owned and operated by the Jemsek-Hinckley family for five generations, and commends the club’s legacy of excellence, accessibility, and innovation. It also notes several historic milestones, including becoming the first public golf facility to host a U.S. Open Qualifier in 1947 and the first public course to offer United States Golf Association handicaps to regular players.

Over the past century, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has welcomed more than six million rounds of golf and hosted legendary athletes such as Olympic champion Jesse Owens and World Golf Hall of Fame members Raymond Floyd and Patty Berg, among many others. These achievements underscore the club’s lasting influence on both the sport and the broader community.

“Reaching 100 years is a rare and meaningful achievement,” said club leadership. “We are honored by the recognition from the Illinois State Senate and deeply grateful to the generations of golfers, families, employees, and community partners who have made St. Andrews what it is today.”

Throughout 2026, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club will commemorate its centennial with special events, historical reflections, and celebrations that honor its rich history while looking ahead to the next century of golf, hospitality, and community engagement. Click here for resolution.
