THE ILLINOIS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS TEAM

The Illinois Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Ramiro Hernandez has joined the team as the new Executive Director of the Tax Institute and Municipal and County Affairs, effective immediately.

Ramiro brings over 10 years of experience in legislative, public policy, and communications across the State of Illinois, County of Cook, and City of Chicago governments. He has developed, shaped, and advocated for pro-business legislation in various sectors, including economic development, finance, tax law, labor law, workforce development, healthcare, energy, and education. Before joining the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Ramiro was the Director of Government Relations and Public Policy for the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. He began his career in public policy on the legislative staff of former Illinois House Minority Leader Jim Durkin, where he was the lead staffer on taxation, revenue, and labor issues.

"I am honored to be joining the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and the Tax Institute at such an exciting time for the state's business community," said Ramiro Hernandez. "I look forward to working closely with Chamber members, lawmakers, and stakeholders to ensure that Illinois remains competitive while implementing fair and effective tax policies that benefit all Illinoisans."

As Executive Director, Ramiro will oversee the implementation of the Tax Institute's strategic direction and operations. He will lead efforts to

influence tax legislation, foster collaboration between business leaders and policymakers, and advance Illinois’ economic growth through competitive tax policy. Additionally, he will work on expanding the Chamber’s capabilities at the municipal and county levels.

The Illinois Chamber of Commerce has long advocated for pro-business tax policies and is a leading voice in shaping the state’s fiscal future. Through the Chamber's Tax Institute, the organization provides in-depth analysis, education, and guidance to businesses and policymakers regarding tax issues.

“We are excited to welcome Ramiro to this critical role at the Illinois Tax Institute,” said Lou Sandoval, President and CEO of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. “His expertise in tax law and policy and his proven track record of working with lawmakers and business leaders will be invaluable as we continue to advocate for sensible and effective tax policies that benefit Illinois businesses and workers. His relationships at the municipal and county levels will be instrumental in expanding the Chamber’s influence in those areas.”
