Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) have announced temporary disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses affected by severe weather across multiple Illinois counties from May through August 2026.
Communities experienced widespread damage due to torrential downpours, flash flooding, straight-line winds, and several tornadoes. This relief is designed to give impacted residents and businesses additional time and flexibility as they continue recovering. Relief is available to residents and businesses located in state‑declared disaster areas, including Alexander, Champaign, Cook, DuPage, Ford, Fulton, Kane, LaSalle, Lake, McLean, Marshall, Pulaski, Tazewell, Vermillion, and Will counties. Additional counties added to the state’s disaster proclamation will also qualify.
Eligible taxpayers may request a waiver of penalties and interest if severe
weather prevented them from filing or paying taxes on time. Relief applies to income tax, withholding tax, sales tax, and specialty and excise taxes.
